Two day video evidence gathering course.

Prior to 1990 the use of Evidence Gathering by either the private sector or the civil authorities was negligible. In retail and other areas c.c.t.v. was in limited use and did not generally help in other areas where crime or activities of other types needed to be recorded.

Even if the equipment was to be used much of what was available was too bulky and did not suit the purpose.

Since then great advances have been made in equipment and legislation in order to use this facility to the advantage of the population and civil authorities
Most police forces have Evidence Gathering team(s) of one sort or another. All areas of this very important subject are dealt with differently by each police area, from training to equipment and even presentation.

The private sector has become involved in this area mainly due to the police withdrawing from areas that they traditionally policed.  This is obviously due to constraints on officers available for deployment and financial restraints.
In this period of modem technology, magistrates and juries are demanding to see video and photographic evidence of what occurred rather than believe an individuals recollection of events.

Each and every situation will vary, but with the correct training ensuring flexibility and adaptability there is no reason why any Evidence Gathering Team should not succeed.

In the past we have all seen the scenes from incidents such as Newbury Bypass, Manchester Airport / Hunts and numerous other industrial disputes. These will not go away but increase at an alarming rate and most of these will fall upon the private sector to police. More recently the effects of 9/11 & 7/7
Therefore we should be ready not only to undertake this role, but to do so in a professional manner and be able to gain the necessary evidence but also to protect our staff.

The candidates are shown a wide range of cameras that are on the market today, informed which ones are best for each job and how best to use them.
The candidate will be shown what to look for when filming and also the best positions to get the best results.
They will be given talks on why you have a need for a protection officer and also the importance of documentation.
