Five day intensive trainer handcuff course.

This course is designed for those persons who’s occupation is involved in the temporary detention of persons of a violent nature i.e. Security staff, Door Supervisors, all candidate must have completed the intermediate handcuffing course at least 18 months before applying to become a trainer.

Course Aims:
The aim of this course is to provide a skill which will reduce the risks involved in detaining a violent person against their will in a safe and professional manner.

Course Objectives:
On successful completion of this course a delegate will have a better understanding of the situations when handcuffs may be considered.

• The delegate will have additional options when dealing with a violent person.
• The delegate will be able to apply an approved type of handcuff professionally and correctly

Projected Course Outcomes

• The delegate will have a better understanding of the skill required to correctly and professionally use handcuffs.
• The delegate will be able to, with the aid of course notes, write sect 3 of the Criminal Law Act 1967 and Common Law use of Force.
• The delegate will have a better understanding of the Company Use of force policy.
• Each delegate will have a clear understanding of the company policy on the use of handcuffs .
• Each delegate will have a better understanding of the Conflict resolution model.
• He / she will be able to assess an assailants warning signs.
• He / she will be able to correctly assess and deal with a threat.
• He / she will gain a better understanding of the basic concepts of body language.
• The delegate will be able to implement approved control methods.
• The delegate will be able to apply any style of handcuff safely.
• Use them correctly in conjunction with legal control methods.

METHOD OF DELIVERY

Each trainer will be expected to make use of all and any delivery method in order to enable each delegate to achieve his / her full potential during the course.

Role play, Practical demonstrations
Simulations, static and dynamic practice
Examinations / continuous evaluation

The course is re-evaluated by an independent evaluator on an annual basis and the manual and all course material updated as required. It fully complies with the ICM Code of Practice 2002.
