We are well aware that the carrying or use of batons in the UK is illegal but we still have a load of requests to run these courses for candidates who are working throughout Europe.

SOS Protection & Surveillance are NOT condoning the use or carrying of batons in the UK and anyone doing so does at their own risk.

The concept of Officer Safety in relation to Batons must be examined as a whole, to include Communication and Listening skills, Conflict management, Tactical Options, Defensive Tactics, Handcuffing skills, Incapacitates, Impact weapons and where necessary Firearm skills.
Our basic extending baton course is a constructive and progressive programme based upon these areas of officer public contact and will provide an officer with increased confidence, awareness and a comprehensive range of options when dealing with a violent and or potentially violent situation. All training must be held at regular intervals and progress from basic to dynamic levels. Any reduction in training is false economy.
Upon successful completion of this course a candidate will be able to: -

• Identify the various parts of the Winchester Expanding Baton.
• Correctly demonstrate the acceptable methods of carriage.
• Demonstrate the correct methods of holding the baton.
• Demonstrate the correct methods of drawing the baton.
• Demonstrate the correct methods of deflecting a blow.
• Demonstrate the correct methods of striking.
• Correctly demonstrate that they have a good working knowledge of acceptable target areas.
• Correctly explain the basic Use of Force principles.
• Successfully pass both a written and practical evaluation.
